Mike Campbell, Managing Director of Campbell Ventures was interviewed this evening by the BBC Look North news team. The heathcare company Smith & Nephew plc announced that it would be making up to 140 staff at its Hull factory redundant today as part of a cost reduction programme to transfer some of its manufacturing to China. Smith & Nephew will be creating new jobs at its plant in Suzhou in China.
Smith & Nephew is one of Hull’s largest employers. It announced today that by transferring some of its production capacity to China the company will be able to secure the long term sustainability of the plants in the UK and China. The manufacturing capability in the UK will focus on new products.
